Dr. Ashlee Jones, DVM | Medical Director
I was born and raised on California’s Central Coast and received my B.S. in Animal Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I attended veterinary school at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee and, afterward, practiced at a 24-hour emergency hospital in California before joining Avenues Pet Clinic to be closer to family.
My favorite aspects of veterinary medicine include emergency and critical care, ultrasonography, surgery and internal medicine. I truly enjoy being available in our client’s time of need and helping return their furry family members to health. In 2021, I joined Avenues Pet Clinic as a partner and Medical Director.
Outside of my work here at the clinic, I live on a working ranch and assist with all aspects of ranching. If it were possible, I’d spend the majority of my time outside of work on a horse! My four-legged family includes 3 horses, a Boston Terrier and a Boxer.
Dr. Rod Hartshorn, DVM | Associate Veterinarian
I joined Avenues Pet Clinic the year founder Dr. Jean Cotton opened it in 1983, first working relief, then as an Associate veterinarian. Starting in 2005, I joined APC as an owner of the clinic and Medical Director.
I still find myself energized by our terrific patients and their devoted owners. For 36 years, each day at the Avenues continues to be a wonderful and fulfilling experience.
I graduated from the University of California at Davis, and am board-certified by both the American College of Laboratory Medicine (ACLAM) and the American College of Veterinary Preventative Medicine (ACVPM). I am also a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
In addition to my love of the practice, I served 21 years in the Air Force Veterinary Corps. My wife Laura and I raise and competitively show Miniature Schnauzers, 41 of which have earned their AKC Championships.
Dr. Randy Smith, DVM | Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University, where he got his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He then continued at Colorado State University, where he received his DVM degree in 2004. Afterward, he completed a one year internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, and spent one year in a surgical residency at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Smith loves performing surgeries of any type, whether orthopedic, oral, or soft tissue. Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys golfing, skiing, fishing, biking, and hiking with his family, and watches his kids perform in sporting events and dance recitals at every possible opportunity.
