Dr. Rod Hartshorn graduated the University of California at Davis, and has been with Avenues Pet Clinic since Dr. Jean Cotton first opened the doors in 1983. Dr. Hartshorn has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery for 45 years, and served 21 years in the Air Force Veterinary Corps.
In addition to his love of the practice, Dr. Hartshorn is an avid downhill skier and SCUBA diver. He and his wife Laura raise and competitively show Miniature Schnauzers, 27 of which have earned their AKC championship.
Dr. Dorsett was born and raised in Central Illinois, and came to APC in 2008. She received her Bachelors in Animal Sciences and Bachelors in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois before continuing on to receive her DVM from the university, and complete an internship in Large Animal Medicine/Ambulatory.
Dr. Dorsett also has extensive experience in behavior training and emergency medicine. She lives in Cheyenne with her pets--4 dogs, 1 cat, 3 snakes, 2 horses, and 4 geckos!
Dr. Staples grew up in Cheyenne and graduated from Central High. She attended the University of Wyoming, completing her bachelor’s degree in 2011, and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 2015. Dr. Staples began working at APC in 2008 as a kennel assistant, and throughout college and veterinary school as a veterinary assistant.
Dr. Staples has an assortment of animals including three dog, two cats, a horse, and a rabbit. In her free time, Dr. Staples enjoys hiking and snowshoeing with her dogs, horseback riding, traveling, reading, and stained glass.

Dr. Roxane MacLellan has been an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the James Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University since 2012. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2002 from the Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. After graduating she worked at a multi-doctor clinic, practicing all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery.
In 2008, Dr. MacLellan joined the Arizona Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery practice in Gilbert, Arizona as a dental resident. In addition to her interests in oral surgery and dentistry, she completed a course in Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians in 2003.
Dr. Kelly A. Kropilak was born and raised inNew Jersey. She graduated from St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Dr. Kropilak worked in New Jersey for several years before joining the Staff at Avenues Pet Clinic in February 2012.
She enjoys the variety of being a general practitioner and on her days off, enjoys going to the movies, catching up on television shows and reading. She does not have any pets right now, but is waiting for that special pet to come along and steal her heart again after the loss of her beloved Pitbull friend and companion "Cassidy" (pictured here) in 2011.
Dr. Barker was born and raised in North Carolina. After receiving her BS in Animal Science from North Carolina State University (GO PACK!), she moved to Mississippi, where she received her DVM from Mississippi State University.
Dr. Barker moved to Cheyenne following graduation with her husband, Joshua, a swine veterinarian. After seeing the yellow pigs in front of Avenues, she knew that working here was meant to be.
In her spare time Dr. Barker likes to travel, especially trips to the beach, cook, and spend time with her husband and fur kids: Boomer, Charlotte, and Duncan (dachshunds), Jackson (yellow lab), and Mojo (the best cat in the world).
Dr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University, getting his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He then continued at Colorado State University, receiving his DVM degree in2004. Afterward, he completed a one year internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, and spent one year in a surgical residency at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Smith loves performing surgeries of any type, whether orthopedic, oral or soft tissue.
Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys golfing, skiing, fishing, biking and hiking with his family, and watches his kids perform in sporting events and dance recitals at every possible opportunity.
